Weekends Suck

Weekends are incredibly difficult for me on this road to getting healthy. I'm so used to sleeping in until noon and sitting on the couch watching sports. In the past year, I never really thought much of drinking my Friday and Saturday nights away at all. This year though...it's not exactly easy to wake up the next day to eat breakfast, go for a walk and hit the gym later in the day.

I did reward myself this weekend though. I decided I have earned myself a weekend off from the gym as I went Monday through Friday. On top of that, my ankle injury has recently flared up and I have a sore hamstring. I don't mean to whine on here but I think I deserved a weekend of moderate rest. I may have taken that a little bit for granted though!

Saturday night was just a little too much fun if you know what I mean. It was K-Rock Adult Night out as Kinosoo Ridge and I was presented with a bottle of tequila in a fine gesture...knowing that mixing alcohol with sugar-ridden drinks is not really the goal of being healthy, I just drank the stuff straight. A lot of it. Kind of an ironic and hypocritical statement, I know but it leads to a funny story. The night ended up with my supper on the floor and me losing my cell phone. I was supposed to meet my mom in Lloydminster for dinner the next day but I had no phone to make plans. I ended up calling on a pay phone and setting up a time and place but I misheard and ended up sitting at the wrong restaurant for an hour so I munched on their brunch buffet. I was proud for only drinking water and having some salad while my parents worried if I made it from Cold Lake to Lloydminster.

Point is...I lose every ounce of routine that I establish during the week. I have trouble waking up and kickstarting my metabolism with breakfast. I have trouble not ordering a pizza or munching on some chips as I watch sports.

Over the weekend, I seemed to develop a terrible cold as well. I'll admit, I didn't make it to the gym today or yesterday but I went sick a few weeks ago and figured it was best that I just rest this cold away. I have a sore throat, I've lost my voice and my nose is like Niagra Falls. This is another roadblock because, in the past, I have struggled with going back to the gym after a cold or something similar knocked me off the track. I NEED to get back in the gym as soon as my immune system does its job. This whole thing is actually getting kind of discouraging...

Results

One of the biggest things I can say right now is that I'm proud of myself. I really didn't think I could do what I have already accomplished and I only started living my new healthy lifestyle a little over two weeks ago.

I was reminded of how far I've come when I was riding the stationary bike at the gym late last week. When I hurt my back in 2004, I was unable to control anything below my waist directly after the incident. My entire left leg and foot was especially bad. I began rehabbing and part of the process was riding the stationary bike. I had problems keeping my foot on the pedals if it didn't have those straps that most bikes have. We actually had to tie my feet to the pedals with those tensor bands. In my ride last week, I rode for half an hour with my left foot falling off once. It's such a little success but it has already made me so proud of myself.

As far as eating healthy and losing weight goes so far, I couldn't be happier with myself. I've been able to pack a lunch most days including a turkey sandwich, an apple, and some vegetables. I find that snacking on some almonds in the afternoon holds me over until supper quite well. I also haven't had a drink of COKE. This is a massive step for me...in the first few weeks I'd honestly get head aches and feel cranky because I didn't have my daily Coke going into my radio show at 2 o'clock. Those have since gone away and I thought I would reward myself after last weekend but I haven't really felt like having one, to be honest. I felt like I needed that extra dose of caffeine to keep me awake throughout the day but even this week when I was covering the morning show for Chris, I didn't have an ounce of caffeine. Not even a coffee. All I had was water and I had no problems waking up...maybe eating breakfast attributes to that.

I've hit the gym at least five times every week since I've started and late last week, something weird happened. I kind of felt like going if that makes any sense. I didn't even have a hard time pushing myself while I was there. I find the best way for me to work out is by target heart rate. Once I get to 150 range, I really start to sweat and feel like I'm accomplishing something. It's cool!

The number one thing I find that keeps me going is compliments I get from people. When I'm out and about and someone asks if I have been working out, it makes me want to go directly to the gym and keep going. My jeans I got for Christmas (the first pair I've owned in 10 years) are actually already falling down. I'm glad I didn't use my own money to buy them!

P.S. - I promised myself that I would weigh in every Friday buttttt...I weighed in two Fridays ago at 314 pounds and then the next Friday at 344 pounds. I can assure you I didn't gain 30 pounds in seven days, haha. I'll see what number I get this week or maybe I'll just get a new scale.

Still Truckin'..

I'm going to go on record saying that I'm very surprised with myself thus far. Tomorrow will be the seventh day of my new lifestyle and I still haven't had a Coca-Cola. Have I thought about it? Absolutely. I feel like if I get off to a rocky start, then it will be an even tougher road.

Friday was really hard...I felt like I had nothing in the tank so instead of going to the gym right after work, I went home and tried to motivate myself. I struggled and struggled and finally went to the gym at around 8:45 (they're open until 10:00) and actually had one of the better work-outs of the past week. I ended up rewarding myself with a few beers that night.

I woke up on Saturday, feeling very refreshed, and decided I'd get a morning work-out in. That did NOT fly so well. I honestly thought I could just go seven days a week but I guess I'm not ready for that. I was completely out of gas and couldn't give the best effort I could have. Maybe it was the lack of recovery time. Maybe it was the beer. Regardless, it was at that moment that I decided that I needed to take Sunday off.

I was really worried about the weekend because that's usually when I'm at my worst when it comes to eating. I controlled myself very well. I went to a sport bar to watch the Detroit Lions/New Orleans Saints game on Saturday night and ended up ordering a buffalo chicken wrap with a salad. I am SO PROUD of myself for ordering that instead of the alternatives that you usually order at a sports bar. It was nice to get out of the house.

For the Sunday football games? Munched on cauliflower and carrots instead of chips and chocolate. Had a hearty roast beef meal (hold the gravy) to finish off the week.

Today I'm going through exactly what I was worried about when this whole change started. I have a nasty cough that just won't go away. I know if I don't go to the gym then I'll fall out of this good routine that I've developed so far. I feel if I go to the gym than I may slow down my recovery from this darn cold. I might have to take a light walk instead of heavy bike ride. I'll consider this my first road-block of my "journey".

Whoa

There's something that people always tell me that I'll never believe.

"Working out will give you more energy" - Insane people

Really? Expending energy is going to give me more? Is it wrong for me not to believe that because it makes absolutely no sense to me. As of right now, I don't have any extra energy at all. Maybe that will change. I've been actually been falling asleep around midnight instead of 3 AM. Apparently people get "high" from sweating. I get angry, haha!

On that note, it seems like I can get to the gym much faster if I have something to be angry about. I'd rather have a burger if I'm happy. So instead of thinking "happy thoughts" I think "angry thoughts" and get my frustration out on the stationary bike. Got a good sweat on and IT REALLY HELPED that they had the ROCK station on. Rock music inspires me...then again, pop music angers me and I'm able to work out to that too.

I've been eating whole wheat spaghetti and going for walks after supper and the spaghetti isn't actually that bad. I can deal with it. I haven't had any other fluids other than water and it seems to be cleaning me out. I'll do a weigh-in tomorrow at the gym and plan to do it at the end of every week.

One Day Down

I'm getting the feeling that a lot think I'm being an "attention whore" for posting my last blog post but there's a lot that has happened to me over that past 48 hours that have made me really not care. There has been a number of people that have called or written to let me know that I said a lot of things they wish they could say so I guess I'm the leader of some sort of movement, haha. I feel that by writing my feelings here, I am holding myself accountable. I CAN'T fail after putting it here.

The first day of the "lifestyle" change went relatively smooth. The toughest thing was not having a bottle of Coke. Oh how I want one of those. I think if I am able to make it through the weekend, I'll treat myself with one of those mini-glass bottles. It gives me something to look forward to! I also noticed that after I ate breakfast (for the first time in a long time) I felt a lot better a lot sooner. I am not a morning person at all but the simple breakfast of a poached egg on a piece of toast sure got me going.

I WALKED to work with an iPod rather than getting a double double before driving to work. I don't know about the nutritional value of a double double but I imagine it's not all that good and it denies me the opportunity to walk to work. Who would want to go get a coffee, park at home, and then walk with it? Not me. I'm glad I walked too because I found a $20 bill on the sidewalk on the way!

I knew the hardest part would be heading to gym after my show and it was. I really didn't want to go. That's $50 a month that can go toward something else. I didn't even know what shoes I would wear but I found my pair of Saskatchewan Roughriders running shoes and thought that would inspire me. It did! I rode the stationary bike the best I could for half an hour, got a good sweat on and felt good for going.

I do think the culture in gyms needs to change though. I walked in there and totally felt like I didn't belong and that's exactly what I was afraid of. Maybe it's me being self-concious but it felt like the whole damn gym was looking at me as I was walking in. I just wanted to do my thing and get out...it really didn't look like there were other people like me at the gym. They were probably getting ready for Canada vs. Russia and I don't blame them. What a waste of time though, eh?

Day two starts now but I worry about the weekend and all the temptations that come with it.

Bring on 2012

Warning: This is not going to be the most inspiring "weight loss blog" you'll ever read but it's real and from the heart. I've got a lot to get off my chest.

I'm fat. There's no way around it (no pun intended). There's nothing more frustrating than having someone tell me, "Nah! You're just big boned". Stop lying to me because I'm not stupid.

2011 was a year that I'm extremely happy to see go. I can think of eight good days in total that happened last year. Two were in Los Angeles in August, three were in Vancouver for the Grey Cup in November, one was Christmas Day, one was New Year's Eve and one was June 15th when the Boston Bruins won the Stanley Cup. Everything else was pretty much garbage. 2012 represents a fresh start for me and I'm taking it very seriously.

I ended up breaking up with my first girlfriend ever of five and a half years in April and I blame it on my weight one hundred per cent. If she wasn't no longer physically attracted to me, then my weight was affecting my head and preventing me from being the partner I should and can be. Really, it's been affecting my head for a long time but I've really just failed myself by doing nothing about it.

The thing that bothers me the most is when girls or guys come up to me at the bar or anywhere and grab my "man boobs". It is certainly the most embarrassing in the entire world. If you think "bullying" stops after elementary school, you're sadly mistaken. Yeah...sticks and stones, right?

Maybe it's more important to get those people out of my life than a slice of cake.

I grow a beard every few months not only to keep warm but to hide my extremely round jaw line and double chin. I like to wear a giant Saskatchewan Roughriders jacket to give me a sense of protection and pride.

Eight years ago, I blew two discs in my back and had to learn how to walk all over again. For some reason, that wasn't enough to scare me into losing the weight. 2012 is the year when I finally make the change. I have never been thin so I don't really know how it feels, to be honest. I've always been a big guy but then I could actually move around...after hurting my back, that all changed and I pretty much gave up on myself.

I am NOT excited for the journey. I AM excited for the results. This will not be fun and it will never be. Maybe that's why I've never went through with losing weight. I am not going to count calories, try and get sponsors out of this, or run a marathon. I am doing it to add years to my life.

I honestly don't believe I can do it. If I can get ONE person other than my mother to believe in me, then I won't be so damn nervous about this goal. The K-Rock listeners are probably my best friends right now. They're there to call me a jerk when I'm being an ass, there to compliment me on a good song they haven't heard for a long time, and willing to call me up to talk about something more than just winning a prize. I appreciate that.

I know a lot of people that want to lose weight but think they can't. They're afraid. This year, I'm facing my fear and crushing it.

Status: Embarrassing

Let's shave 8 numbers off of that by next year. No. I'm not going to shave my chest.

Movember

Every year Movember has become more popular and its very existence is the reason why I might lose my beard. Basically, men are encouraged to grow a mustache for the month of November to raise money and awareness for prostate cancer research.

I love trash talking. I think it's one of the most important parts of sports. However, people in the area and Canadians in general are SO passionate about hockey that if you say anything about their team, they just might lose it. I've been trashing the Edmonton Oilers over the past little while so after being late for a morning show the powers that be have decided that I should shave my beard.

I gave them one condition! I will shave my beard if we raise $500 for Movember by November 1st. I'm pretty confident that I'll be able to keep my beard but if you want to donate, clickhere and we will be one step closer to saying good bye to my hairy face.

Keenan Cahill

There's been a kid who has become sort of an underground sensation on YouTube because of his lip-syncing "skills". Kind of funny how when professionals do it they get shunned but when a little kid does it, it's admired! Regardless, former WWE Champion "The Miz" paid Keenan Cahill a visit and challenged him to a lip-syncing battle!

Fellow WWE superstar John Morrison ruined the day but I give the edge to The Miz for technique and Cahill for entertainment value.

Winnipeg Jets

I'm so happy to have the Winnipeg Jets back in the NHL and playing come October...but I think they should NOT have messed with the logo. Maybe give it a new modern edge or something but not like this...

Weird Al

I know this is a classic rock radio station that I work at but I think we can and should all appreciate the genius that is "Weird" Al Yankovic. He's always known the right song to parody at the right time and does it while being family friendly. Some of it pushes the limits but his stuff is so incredibly silly that I LOVE IT.

He's got a new album out called Alpocalypse and the first single is a parody of Lada Gaga's "Born This Way". Check out the video.

Bruins vs. Canadiens

All along, I thought this rivalry was all about hockey. All about what happened on the ice. For years, the Montreal Canadiens have ousted the Boston Bruins in the playoffs but it seems like things are starting to favor Boston. Although Montreal won the season series this year, Boston beat Montreal 8-6 in their second last meeting of the regular season in a game full of line brawls and destroyed them 7-0 in their final meeting of the year. Last night, their playoff series wrapped up with Boston finally getting the better of the Canadiens in a Game 7.

Jack Edwards, a play-by-play man for NESN proves that the Bruins/Canadiens rivalry goes MUCH deeper than what happens on the ice.

Glee

Alright...Glee seems to be the most popular show on television and I don't really understand it. I mean, these people are getting famous off of other people's music which kind of bothers me. Same as American Idol for the most part. You don't see many cover bands that get as massive as anyone on Glee or American Idol.

I guess "Weird" Al Yankovic would be the exception but he does make the songs a parody instead of a cover. He's also very grateful for the artists that give him permission to make fun of their music EVEN IF HE LEGALLY DOESN'T NEED PERMISSION. Ryan Murphy, the creator of Glee, is a egotistical bum though. He seems to think that every artist should be begging to be on his little show.

There are two notable artists who've turned him down in the last little while and the princess blew a gasket. He called Kings of Leon "self-centred" and Slash "stupid" for not wanting to take part in the show.

Dave Grohl has recently spoke out and I really like what he had to say.

Zdeno Chara hits Max Pacioretty

Yesterday was the must anticipated rematch between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. Last time these teams played there was something like 192 penalty minutes with multiple line brawls and a goalie fight. Old time hockey! I think everyone was looking forward to round two but no one expected this to happen:

Honestly, I think the hit happened so fast that Zdeno Chara couldn't control what happened. Other fans of the league, however, are enraged. They're pretty much calling for Chara's head but I'm not sure if they would be if Pacioretty didn't suffer a serious injury. He has a severe concussion and fractured vertebra. He may not play again that's very sad.

I don't think we need to punish players just because someone gets hurt though. Are we going to punish players for shooting a puck into someone's ankle now? It was an unfortunate incident and Chara is not going to be punished by the NHL and I think it's the right call.

American Idol

I need to start off by saying that I pretty much hate everything about American Idol. There have been a few moments on that show that I like including anything to do with William Hung and the "Pants on the Ground" guy. What happened last night may have made me a little bit of a fan.

There was no screaming guitar solo but I need to give props to Mr. Durbin. He did a pretty good job of hitting the notes Rob Halford does. I think I may have to watch a few more episodes of this show to see if Durbin does anymore sweet songs.

Rider Pride

Happy March! It sure doesn't seem like spring is supposed to start nineteen days from today. A low of -33 tonight. Ouch.

On Sunday, I attended the Oilers and Bruins game. That may have been the best Oiler game I've ever been to. It had everything hockey is supposed to have! Fights, speed, hits, intensity, an Oiler loss, women. Wait, what? Yeah...Oilers Octane (the cheerleading group) were there dancing throughout the night. I'm not against it and I did notice they helped the commercial breaks go by faster.

I don't know what I was thinking by NOT taking a picture of the cheerleaders.

At sporting events around the world, there has been a relatively new phenomenon. Saskatchewan Roughriders gear has been seen everywhere! Last Sunday at the Heritage Classic in Calgary, there were groups of Rider fans and the day before that, at an LA Clippers/Lakers game, Rider fans made it on the tube too. Other instances include the World Series in San Francisco and the Stanley Cup Final in Philadelphia. Rider fans are like mold, they're everywhere! This isn't an extreme case but I decided to wear my Rider gear to the game in Edmonton to represent Rider Pride. I mean...it's only a matter of time before we suck again.

Foo Fighters - Rope

I gotta say...Dave Grohl is one of the coolest musicians out there. He got famous playing drums in Nirvana but once Kurt Cobain died, he started his own band the Foo Fighters and he's been rocking ever since. More recently, he was part of a supergroup by the name of "Them Crooked Vultures" with John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age.

They've got a new album coming out in April and it has been recorded without the aid of a computer which I find absolutely awesome. Here's the first single from the album!

X-Men: First Class

I guess as a kid I wasn't into reading comic books. I'm not sure why...I guess I was always too busy with wrestling or video games. If I would have known about comic books, I would have definitely read them!

We're now in an era where comic books are hitting the big screen at a rapid pace and I'm loving every minute of it! We've already had four films related to the X-Men but we've got another coming our way in June! Here's the first trailer:

FIGHT!

Generally, Canadians aren't regarded as very violent people but when it comes to hockey...watch out! Many of us love fights when it comes to hockey especially when the goalies go at it.

I'll never forget in the early nineties when the Red Wings and Avalanche had that awesome playoff series full of fights. That was cool. There was a goalie fight in the NHL last night but it wasn't all that impressive or cool.

Diddy Gets Sued

I realize this is a classic rock station and P. Diddy, Puff Daddy, Diddy or whatever they call him these days is a rapper but this story is too good to ignore.

New York, Jan 29 (ANI): A woman from Los Angeles has reportedly filed a 1- trillion-dollar lawsuit against music mogul Diddy, claiming that he is responsible for the September 11 attacks.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks also accused Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, his ex-girlfriend Kim Porter and police brutality victim Rodney King of somehow being responsible for the collapse of the World Trade Center.

After they "knocked down the WTC" she wrote, the three came and "knocked my children down."

Turks also added that Diddy stole a poker chip worth "100 zillions of dollars" that she won in a Mississippi casino and later gave it away to someone else.

She further claimed she once dated Diddy and that the 41-year-old rapper is the father of her 23-year-old son.

She is petitioning for 900 billion dollars in child support. The other 100 billion dollars she is seeking is for "loss of income," reports the New York Post.

A Los Angeles judge denied her request for a restraining order against Diddy, but set a hearing for Jan 31. (ANI)

Why I Don't Ski

This is why I don't ski and I never recommend it to anyone. I think skiing is crazier than goaltending in hockey and that's saying a lot! I'll never forget going on the school ski trip and destroying my knee. Ouch!

The skier in the video is Austrian Hans Grugger and he's skiing at the World Cup on the tough course. It sure seems like they're making courses tougher and tougher...pretty soon we'll be competing on video game systems instead of doing the real thing!

Grugger is still in intensive care.

Death Metal Parrot

If there's one thing I've always wanted in my life...it's a pet that is a fan of heavy metal. Girls naturally don't like heavy music so I'll never meet a normal girl that listens to Slayer over and over. No offense to the girls that do, in fact, do just that.

I do have a couple turtles but I'm not exactly sure if they like heavy metal. They do kind of mosh though which is pretty sweet. If they're walking on the floor, they will not go around the other turtle but they will climb over the other. It's quite comical but I'm not sure if they sit there and listen to Black Sabbath's Master of Reality over and over.

Now it's not Black Sabbath or Megadeth but Drowning Pool is a decent start.

I love Don Cherry

Mr. Cherry is always in trouble and maybe that's the reason I really like him. It's definitely one of the reasons if not the main reason. Well, Rob Ford is the new mayor of Toronto and he's "right-wing". Don Cherry was allowed to speak at Ford's swearing-in ceremony and here's the transcript:

"Actually I'm wearing pink for all the pinkos out there that ride bicycles and everything. I thought I'd get it in. What'd ya expect, Ron MacLean, here? To come here?

You know, I am befuddled, because I thought I was just doing a good thing, coming down with Ron—Rob—and I was gonna do this here, and it was gonna be nice and the whole deal.

Lemmy

As a fan of heavy music, Lemmy Kilmister is definitely one of my heroes. He's the frontman of punk/rock/metal band Motorhead and is just awesome. Would I call him the best bass player ever? No. Best singer? Definitely not. Motorhead did, however, change the game when it came to punk rock and heavy metal. They're music doesn't sound like anything...it's just Motorhead. Not to mention, he/they has/have influenced so many of the bands that I listen to that I need to respect the heck out of Motorhead and Lemmy.

Now they've got a movie on Lemmy coming out!

Poor Guy

Alright...part of me feels horrible but there's a huge part of me that thinks this is absolutely hilarious.

Please tell me you laughed. If not...I guess I'm just a horrible person. I'm just lucky I didn't fall because I know during half-time I was playing my vuvuzela like it was a guitar. Lucky, I guess.

I promised I wouldn't talk about Grey Cup anymore so I think I'll make my last entry (for one year) about it tomorrow. I guarantee it this time.

What to do, what to do

All day long I've been trying to figure out what to write about on my blog. Heck, I'm not even sure if anyone reads or I just do this for fun! As a Rider fan, it's really hard to get the Grey Cup off my mind and write about something else. Maybe I should just dedicate the rest of this week to the Grey Cup. Monday too.

For some odd reason, I have a very good feeling about this game. I'm usually a "cautious optimist" when it comes to the Riders but I'm a straight up optimist this time. Talking to all kinds of Rider fans brings me down though. They have been pessimistic and nothing else. Come on. I have one word for you...believe. Rider Nation has made a name for itself just by believing and supporting this team through thick and thin. Do it.

We're going to the Grey Cup...again

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have done it! They beat the "Best team in the CFL" and sent them golfing to earn themselves another trip to the Grey Cup! The third time in four years, in fact. The biggest lead of the game was eleven early on when Calgary came storming out of the gates. From there, Saskatchewan shut them down and won 20-16.

There was, however, a play in the game that eerily resembled last year's Grey Cup game with Montreal. In the fourth quarter, a Montreal player fumbled a punt while they were down and with three Roughriders standing around him, he recovered. If Saskatchewan had recovered that fumble, we would be talking about how they would be defending their championship on Sunday but instead, we're talking about how they are looking for revenge. Click here to check out the similar play that happened in yesterday's game. Was it meant to be? Maybe.

There are so many factors pointing in Saskatchewan's way this year and that's a rarity. Usually the odds are stacked up so high, it's almost impossible to overcome. It's going to be like a home game for the Riders on Sunday and they're riding a three game winning streak going into the big game. Plus...the team that has eliminated B.C. from the playoffs has won the Grey Cup every year since 2003 (B.C. won it in 2004). Guess who did it this year!

Hollywood writers couldn't have thought up a better script. Montreal beat Saskatchewan last year on the infamous "13th Man" penalty. Saskatchewan ousted Montreal in the season opener in a 54-51 overtime thriller. The 98th Grey Cup is going to be a classic.

Let's Go Riders!

I've been showing my Rider Pride all week long...been wearing different Roughrider gear every day hoping it brings good luck. This Sunday is the big game! Riders and Stamps. It's becoming quite the rivalry in the CFL with the Saskies eliminating Calgary from the playoffs three of the last four years. I like that.

Nik Lewis has already opened his mouth saying that the air in Calgary is "thinner" so the Stampeders have an advantage. There are also rumours flying around that a security guard at McMahon Stadium is a Roughrider fan so a Rider Loonie has been buried at centre field. Who has the advantage now?!

Let's face it, Rider fans aren't the sharpest knife in the drawer. We're not the best at English..or math but we definitely know our football. Down with Calgary! Let's go RIDERS!

Bearded Men Beware

I feel the need to warn all men with a beard. I'm a bearded man (at the moment) and I have become extremely concerned with an incident in Kentucky. I've been placed with the special ability to grow a beard since I was the ripe age of 14. My peers always looked up to me! However, there seems to be some men who have an extreme distaste for facial hair. Jealously perhaps? I'm not quite sure.

"Man claims he was forced to eat his own beard

A Kentucky man says he feared for his life after he was in a fight with friends and they forced him to eat his own beard.

"They cut my beard and forced me to eat it," Harvey Westmoreland told a reporter from the NBC affiliate LEX18 while wearing a hat that says "Southern State" and has a Confederate flag on it.

He said his brother Joseph was working for friend Troy Holt in his barn.

Last May, Holt and another friend, James Hill, invited him over but he and Holt started fighting over a lawn mower.

The fight escalated, fists were thrown and Westmoreland was forced to chomp down on his facial hair.

Hill and Holt pleaded guilty to the fight. They will be sentenced Tuesday"

The Canadian Finals Rodeo was in town (Edmonton) over the weekend and it's always a big draw. Every single year people argue about whether the rodeo is animal cruelty or not. Who cares? These animals have a choice between becoming a steak on your plate or having the opportunity to beat up the very species who turns them into food. What would you take?

How come the animals are allowed to hurt humans?

A lady ended up being carried out on a stretcher but it looks like she'll be fine.

Amazing Wheel of Fortune Lady

Wheel of Fortune has always been one of those shows that I used to watch after school...immediately followed by Jeopardy. It was kind of funny because I always thought the people who appeared on Wheel of Fortune were "dumb" and the people who appeared on Jeopardy were "smart". This girl looks to buck the trend!

That's got to be the craziest "solve" ever! Caitlin Burke ended up winning herself a Caribbean getaway with the solve and $53,618 throughout her entire run with the show!

We're Going Streaking!

"Streaking" is one of those things that just shouldn't be a crime. I don't know why the higher-ups at sporting events think they need to beat the crap out of someone after they run onto the field of play, naked or not. It's almost more exciting than the game...and it certainly adds to the atmosphere! I've seen many streakers at Saskatchewan Roughrider and Edmonton Eskimo games during the years when the Riders were really bad. It gave us something to cheer for.

I do, however, think it's funny when the actual athletes pound the fan that runs onto the field. Mike Curtis, a former Baltimore Colt, and Rob Ray, a former Buffalo Sabre, are both known for confronting fans in a violent manner.

This past Saturday, B.C. Lions fans didn't have all that much to cheer for while they were getting beat by Saskatchewan...until this happened.

Yes! A man stormed the field in his motorized wheelchair. It doesn't get much better than that. Too bad this video only shows the tail end of it because I want to know how the heck he did it!

The Final Frontier...

is the title of the new Iron Maiden album! There are many rumblings saying that this could be the last album we hear from Iron Maiden. It sure has a name to fit the bill!

Perfect Blunder

A perfect game is something every pitcher in the MLB strives for. Only 20 pitchers have done it a baseball reference site shows that there have been 394,190 games played. Two teams play each game so a perfect game has been attempted 788,380 teams. The probability of a perfect game is .00025%. Wow!

For those who don't know...a perfect game is when a pitcher does not allow a single base hit or a single walk.

It appeared as though Armando Gallaraga did it yesterday. Your eyes can deceive you though. It was the 9th inning and there were two outs. One more out and the 21st perfect game in MLB history would be in the books. Here's what happened.

The base runner was clearly out. There goes Gallaraga's dream of throwing a perfect game. There has been a huge backlash from the fans over the past 24 hours and Bud Selig, the commissioner of baseball, said that he would think about overturning the call. He later decided that that won't happen but they will look at adding more instant replay in baseball games.

Do you think the decision should be overturned? I certainly do. Referees and umpires have the job to get the call on the field right. There's no way that this takes away from the integrity of the game. I understand that it's too late to take back bad calls in the past but get it right now. This kid deserves to have this honour under his belt.

Baseball fans around the world know that it was a perfect game, Detroit Tiger fans and Cleveland Indians players included. In an attempt at justice, GM presented Gallaraga with a 2010 Corvette convertible earlier today. The umpire who made the wrong call, Jim Joyce, has since apologized the pitcher and it's been accepted.

It's good to see sportsmanship every now and then, isn't it?

Lars Ulrich's letter to Ronnie James Dio

I thought this was a really cool piece so I've decided to share it with you. You never think guys like Lars had to look up to anyone because they've always been "the man". Well, he really looked up to Dio who just passed away this past Sunday. Tune in on Saturday for our tribute to Ronnie at 7.

A Letter to Ronnie

Dear Ronnie,

I just got off stage in Zagreb. I was met with the news that you've passed on. I'm kind of in shock, but I wanted you to know that you were one of the main reasons I made it onto that stage to begin with. When I first saw you in Elf, opening for Deep Purple in 1975, I was completely blown away by the power in your voice, your presence on stage, your confidence, and the ease with which you seemed to connect to 6000 Danish people and one starry-eyed 11 year old, most of whom were not familiar with Elf's music. The following year, I was so psyched when I heard the results of you joining forces with my favorite guitar player. You guys sounded so right for each other and I instantly became Rainbow's #1 fan in Denmark. In the fall of 1976, when you played your first show in Copenhagen, I was literally in the front row and the couple of times we made eye contact you made me feel like the most important person in the world. The news that you guys were staying in town on your day off somehow embedded itself in my brain and I made the pilgrimage to the Plaza Hotel to see if I could somehow grab a picture, an autograph, a moment, anything. A few hours later you came out and were so kind and caring... pictures, autographs and a couple minutes of casual banter. I was on top of the world, inspired and ready for anything. Rainbow came to Copenhagen a couple more times over the next few years and each time you guys blew my mind, and for a good three years were my absolute favorite band on this planet. Over the years I've been fortunate enough to run into you a half dozen times or so and each time you were as kind, caring and gracious as you were in 1976 outside the hotel. When we finally got a chance to play together in Austria in 2007, even though I may not have let on, I was literally transformed back to that little snot nosed kid who you met and inspired 31 years earlier and it was such a fucking honor and a dream come true to share a stage with you and the rest of the legends in Heaven and Hell. A couple of weeks ago when I heard that you were not going to be able to make it to the Sonisphere shows that we would be sharing this June, I wanted to call you and let you know that I was thinking of you and wish you well, but I kind of pussied out, thinking the last thing you needed in your recovery was feeling obligated to take a phone call from a Danish drummer/fan boy. I wish I'd made that call. We will miss you immensely on the dates, and we will be thinking of you with great admiration and affection during that run. It seemed so right to have you out on tour with the so-called “Big Four” since you obviously were one of the main reasons that the four bands even exist. Your ears will definitely be burning during those two weeks because all of us will be talking, reminiscing and sharing stories about how knowing you has made our lives that much better.

Ronnie, your voice impacted and empowered me, your music inspired and influenced me, and your kindness touched and moved me. Thank you.

There's always sort of been a rule in sports that everyone follows but no one really knows about. If you get hit in the junk, do not clutch at the jewels. It's just not good for TV. Sami Salo broke this rule in Vancouver's hockey game with Chicago last night but he did have a good reason. He suffered a ruptured testicle from a slapshot.

Soundgarden Returns

Mr. Ovechkin is the centre of controversy all over again. Here's why:

Is he a bad guy for spraying the poor little kid or was it all in good fun?

Administrative Professionals Day

The week of April 18th-24th is Administrative Professionals Week and April 21st is the biggest day of celebration. It is kind of hard to define what an "administrative professional" is because their duties are so widespread. They do everything! Playoff Beard

A playoff tradition that I like to take part in is growing a beard until my team gets knocked out of the playoffs. Sometimes you get a pretty good beard going cheering for a team like the New Jersey Devils. As I've gotten older, more rules have been put in place for me. Some workplaces don't like beards, some women don't like the beards and that's my number one problem. Here is my progress so far but it's all subject to change if certain women in my life make me shave.

Notice the chin hair. That's a goatee. Not a full playoff beard. If the Devils make it deep this year, it will fill out the playoff beard. Updates will be posted every week!

Today's a great day to be alive, isn't it? It's an even better day to be a rainy one. We need all the excuses we can get to sit on the couch and watch playoff hockey all night.

I'm a New Jersey Devils fan and I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the first round is going to be a piece of cake. Philadelphia Flyers? Pfft. You better pick them in this pool.

Spring Has Sprung!

Never Prank an NBA Player

These guys are always packin' if you know what I mean. It's been proven with Gilbert Arenas going to court after bringing firearms to the arena. Would you really want to pull a prank on one of these guys?

A ball boy for the Denver Nuggets had the guts to! Last week I posted a video of someone buttering a floor but the ball boy actually filled Kenyon Martin's Range Rover with buttered popcorn. I think it's a pretty good one!

Martin sure didn't appreciate it though. Here's what he had to say on the ordeal:

""That ain't no [expletive] joke," Martin said. "I'm going to find out who did it ... put my [expletive] hands on one of y'all. I'm going to put my hands on whoever did it. You better believe that. It's [expletive] personal. You better believe it."

He also threatened that he would skip the playoffs if no one owned up to it. The ball boy ended up admitting he did it to one of the owners of the Denver Nuggets and everything is fine now.

Why is it that hockey is considered such a barbaric sport? It may be on the ice but off of it all the players seem to be pretty good natured. Maybe it's because the sport's dominated by Canadians and we know how to take a joke.

Wrestlemania XXVI was this past Sunday and two days later, I still can't get the images out of my head of The Undertaker handing Shawn Michaels his last tombstone piledriver. Awesome. Why? Why?! WHY?!

Have you ever wanted to punch a little kid or his/her mother? I have. I hate when kids stare at me yet they do it all the time. They just stare. No matter how many faces I make or how much I ignore them, they still just stare.

I decided to do some very extensive research on the issue at hand and found this answer:

Babies and children like to look at the prettiest things they can find. They have shown that babies are attracted to the most symmetrical face. It just sounds like you are unusually pretty. Maybe they are just in awe!

Suddenly I feel so much better about myself.

A Sad Day in Music History

NZ Entertainment is reporting that Miley Cyrus is walking away from music because she is lacking inspiration. Apparently, the album that she is releasing later this year will be her last because she wants to rediscover herself as an artist.

Opposite of Anorexia

I've always wondered if there was an opposite to anorexia. I did some limited research and found something called "bigorexia". What prompted this very limited research involving Googling "opposite of anorexia"? This.

Someone actually wants to be 1,000 pounds? Sick. I guess this woman is perfectly capable of doing physical activity but she chooses to go shopping with a scooter. She chooses to spend $815 a week on groceries for herself. Wow.

The most disturbing part of the article is the way she makes money to support this "habit". If I was a girl, I would probably think the most disturbing part is the kids that have to live with this slob....but I'm a guy.

People pay to subscribe to her website on the internet to watch her eat and wash herself. Do you love bacon so much that you would get off on watching a 600 pound woman rub the grease all over her busoms? There's a fetish for everything.

Hockey

There's been a lot of interesting happenings lately in the NHL and it all started with Matt Cooke's questionable hit on Marc Savard.

It was a very dirty hit as you can see...now we move on to Alexander Ovechkin's hit on Brian Campbell.

Quite the questionable hit too. However, I think that Campbell made a mistake by turning his back to Ovechkin. He shouldn't have done that. He knows that Ovechkin is a wreckless player and was planning on hitting him.

The difference between the two hits? Alexander Ovechkin got suspended for two games and Matt Cooke was handed no suspension. That doesn't make any sense! He threw his arm in the air so he could hit Savard in the head and he's a repeat offender too! Ovechkin is a careless player at times but if Cooke is going to get off with nothing then Ovechkin should be left alone.

These hits will not stop if the NHL won't be consistent with the way they're policed. These hits are also the reason why hockey has a bad name and Americans are scared of it. It's weird, I know. They watch the barbaric NFL where much worse things have happened but they're Americans. Enough said. Leave them alone!

Classiest Way to Dump Someone Ever

Do you remember high school drama? A guy didn't really want to break up with his girlfriend face-to-face so he hired a friend to do their dirty work.

I totally remember girls getting mad about the way their men would break up with them and vice versa. These days...it's frowned upon to dump someone via text message or over Facebook. The worst way to dump someone has not even been mentioned yet.

E*Trade Lawsuit

E*Trade...the company with the famous "talking baby" commercials is getting sued. This is the ad in question:

Guess who is orchestrating the lawsuit. Lindsay Lohan.

"They're using her name as a parody of her life. Why didn't they use the name Susan? This is a subliminal message. Everybody's talking about it and saying it's Lindsay Lohan," her lawyer, Stephanie Ovadia, said.

I guess she's trying to market herself as a star that uses one name (i.e. Sting, Oprah). I'm sorry. When someone says "Lindsay", Lindsay Lohan doesn't pop into my head.

And since when is being an alcoholic the same as being a milkaholic? A spokesperson for E*Trade defends the company by saying they "just used a popular baby name that happened to be the name of someone on the account team."

Since Lohan's lawyer suggested they use the name Susan, I suppose Ms. Boyle will have her panties in a knot soon too.

Oh Happy Day!

When the NHL came! I'm so glad to have the NHL back. There were 12 games on the schedule yesterday and I was happy to see Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils beat the San Jose Sharks, one of the best teams in the league.

However, the mention of Mr. Brodeur brings me to another topic. I have recently been accused of not caring about what the rest of Team Canada accomplished because Brodeur wasn't in net. First of all....this accusation comes from a man that thinks every fight Tiger Williams had should have counted as a goal so I should really throw it to the wayside.

He's a Canucks fan and I'm a Devils fan. The difference is I can see a good goalie when one shows up. Martin Brodeur is the best goalie to have ever played the game and would have won the rest of the tournament if Canada had played the way they ended up playing. Hockey is a team sport. If the team in front of the goalie doesn't play well, they usually don't win. Especially an entire tournament.

Others think Brodeur only is good because of the team in front of him. Have you watched hockey since 2003? No? Well, New Jersey isn't the defensive powerhouse they used to be. Brent Sutter was the coach. An offensive juggernaut.

So congratulations to Team Canada and congratulations to Marty Brodeur for being a class act during the whole tournament. He always had a smile on his face on the bench and was happy for his team winning gold.

Deaf

I must be going deaf...because I can't hear any of the Roberto Luongo fanboys anymore. In fact, it's deathly silent.

Yes, I do acknowledge the fact that Canada beat Russia 7-3 but do the Brodeur haters acknowledge this stat: 3 goals on Russia's first 17 shots. I'm sorry but the Americans provided way more of a threat than Russia ever did.

The Russians played terrible. The Americans forced chances to happen by dumping the puck in and going after it. Russia made a terrible mistake by trying to carry the puck over the blue line. That doesn't work against Canada especially when they're on their game. You played fanastic, Luongo. Red Light Racicot could have won that game!

Roberto Luongo has proved absolutely nothing. Wins against Norway, Germany, and a lackluster Russian team are nothing to be impressed about. Put a goalie in the net that actually deserves it.

Pants

Look at those things! Awesome. Those are the pants that Team Norway wear while curling.

These must be the quirkiest Olympics of all time. When I first saw those pants, I was horrified. I slowly warmed up them and even want a pair. I guess 435,000 people agree with me as that is the number of fans of these pants on Facebook!

435,000 people panicked this morning when the higher-ups at Facebook decided that the fan page violated the sites terms of use. There was an internet equivalent of a riot this morning and for the first time, a riot actually achieved something. Two and a half hours later, the page was back up and running!

Now how do I get a pair?

Team Canada

After the loss to the Americans Sunday night, it seems as though all Canadians are in panic mode. First of all all...why does everyone's emotional stability rely on how our hockey team does? That's not the point but still...calm down! We all know that Canada should have won that game. No reason to panic yet. They get one extra game to gel as a team and that's more important than an extra day of rest.

I am, however, not happy with Roberto Luongo being named starter. I am a New Jersey Devils fan, yes, but him starting over Martin Brodeur has nothing to do with me being frustrated about my favorite player being put on the backburner. What has Roberto Luongo ever won since the World Juniors? Not a lot. Since he's come to Vancouver, he has become a human funnel when the playoffs rolled around and he has threatened to retire from the game of hockey to go play poker. Vancouver named him captain of the team to make him a little more happy. This guy is a big baby. I want a person in net that has a PASSION for the game of hockey and a desire to win. I firmly believe that Luongo wanted back to Florida so he could have all the spotlight. No one on that team is good so Luongo would get all the shots and all the glory for their seventeen wins a season if he were to go back. He doesn't deserve to play for our country. If Marc Savard doesn't get to play for our country for having a reputation in the NHL as being a whiner, Roberto Luongo should be dismissed as well.

I'd rather see Marc-Andre Fleury in net instead of Roberto Luongo. You know...he helped Pittsburgh win the STANLEY CUP last year against Detroit. That's clutch. That's what Team Canada needs. The higher-ups on that team should also know that once Brodeur has a bad game, he's not going to have another for a LONG time. Put him back in net and let Luongo gamble his money away.

Super Bowl Commercials

This was one of the first years that I've actually paid attention to the commercials during the Super Bowl. I was pulling for Indianapolis but I really could care less about either team that took part in the game this year. I was just hoping to entertained and that I was! The Who had a pretty sweet half-time show and the commercials were awesome! Alberta Winter Games Volunteering

Whoa...it finally clicked in my head that it is the year 2010. I have still been labelling my entries as 2009!

Anyway, the winter games kick off tomorrow with the opening ceremonies (sold out) and you probably need a schedule so you know when the events are going down. Click here to see the schedule!

Belly Button Lint

Everybody has at least one strange habit. Some check the fridge when they aren't hungry, some people chew their toe nails, and some people even eat their ear wax. I do tend to check the fridge but my number one habit is checking for belly button lint. I love the stuff. I love to examine it, pull it apart, roll it up on a tighter ball. How does the stuff get there? It will forever be a mystery.

Dion Phaneuf's Little Brother

Dion Phaneuf is one of the most feared hitters in the NHL. He's got a 15 year old brother that is in the junior circuit right now and his team was playing an exhibition game against Canada's National Women's team. This is what he pulled:

Lip-synching

I found an article with infamous lip-synching incidents in music history. There was the usual...Britney Spears, Hillary Duff, Ashlee Simpson but there was one surprise. Nirvana.

I decided to read more into it because that really surprised me. From there the story turns into a comedy. It was 1991 and the band was appearing on a show called "Top of the Pops". The show's producers wanted the music to be pre-recorded while Cobain sang live. The band reluctanty agreed but they made a mockery of the show. Cobain strums like a robot, Grohl drummed like an idiot, and Novoselic jumped around like a grasshopper in a henhouse. Not only that, Cobain sings at half-speed!

It's especially obvious during Kurt's guitar intro and the shot at 2:24 of Grohl drumming. It's pure gold. Take a look.

Strongest Kid in the World

That kid's insane!

Giuliano Stroe is in the Guiness World Records for completing the fastest ever 10-meter walk with a weight ball between the legs. I'm not quite sure if I could go one meter. Look at all the stuff he can do in that video. Oh yeah...he's only five.

He earned himself six-pack abs before the age of six! The last time I had a six-pack, it came with a hangover. He should have another Guiness World Record..."First person to get into a record book before being able to read it".

Dirty Hit or Player's Mistake?

You be the judge.

Is this a dirty hit or does David Booth need to keep his head up? Why is it that now, in this age of "advanced" equipment, that players are getting injured on a more frequent basis?

I have no idea what they can do to stop the injuries but I'm a guy that thinks players need to keep their head on a swivel. I may sound a little old school but hockey's hockey. It's always been a rough and violent sport. It's unfortunate that players are getting hurt but seriously, are kids not being taught to be careful?

Safety for our Children

Sometimes we try too hard when it comes to protecting our children and with Theoren Fleury recently admitting to being sexually abused by his junior hockey coach, I feel this needs to be brought up.

We try to stop creeps on the street. We protect our kids from the internet and from television. Why don't we protect them from creepy adults who are actually leaders in our communities? (See: above video) That man is a yoga instructor for kids! All it proves is that sometimes the problem is right under the tips of our noses.

Guns N' Roses

I'm always way too lazy to update my blog on Mondays so here's my lazy update for today. Tuesdays are so brutal it's not even funny. The polarity is off in my body and I just feel like there's something wrong. By Wednesday I feel okay and then on to Thursday I feel great but guess what. It's all over on Friday for me to start over again on a crappy Monday.

ANYWAY...there was a huge concert announcement yesterday. Guns N' Roses (not the original line-up) will be coming to Edmonton on January 17th, 2010 to rock Rexall Place. Hard to believe it's 2010, eh?

Now I know you're saying, "It's not Guns N' Roses without Slash!". I hate to break it to you...but Axl Rose is Guns N' Roses. It's not Guns N' Slashes. Axl has always been GNR and he's the one who made them "The Most Dangerous Band on the Planet".

This brings me to another point. Chinese Democracy doesn't suck. Let me ask you a question. The album sucks compared to what? Led Zeppelin II? Paranoid? Even Appetite for Destruction? Maybe. Or compared to fifteen years of waiting? Put all of that aside and Chinese Democracy is a good album. Just listen to it with your blinders off and you'll see that that's exactly what it is...a good album. The same people that crap all over the nineties era Metallica crap all over the new GNR and they don't understand that musicians need to grow up and try different things. Axl did and he put out a sweet record.

Regardless, the new Guns N' Roses knows how to put on a show and I promise you, it will be worth to money to check out. Tickets range from $49.50 to $89.50 and they go on sale this Friday at 10:00 AM. Click here to get your tickets.

Def Leppard Cancelled

Los Angeles, CA - Due to unforeseen personal matters, the third leg of Def Leppard's North American Tour, set to begin on October 22nd has been cancelled. "We know how truly blessed we are to have such committed fans," said the band in a statement. "That's why we've agonized over this decision. Even if just a single concert, we don't take cancelling shows lightly, but unfortunately life's commitments need to be the priority."

Georges Laraque a Sexist?

A new web ad has surfaced where George Laraque, player for the Montreal Canadiens and formerly of the Edmonton Oilers, endorses an alcoholic energy drink called Octane 7.0. Feminist groups are up in arms about it and want Laraque to be punished. On top of that, the new NHL CBA states that no player can endorse an alcoholic beverage. Is Georges a bad man for doing this especially after all the community work he's done in both Edmonton and Montreal? Why don't the women in the commercial get blamed by feminist groups for appearing in the ad? You be the judge.

Laraque said that he donated the money he made from the ad to charity but the groups that are attacking him won't be swayed! He has also said that he will volunteer for some women's rights groups to make up for his "mistake".

My only question is...why can't he deke that well in the NHL?

Def Leppard in Edmonton

Make sure you buy tickets for this show! I saw Def Leppard back in 2006 with The Tea Party opening and it was a great show. It's worth going just to see all of the cougars..oh, and Rick Allen. It's truly amazing seeing him play the drums after that tragic accident he was in 20 years ago. Not only will Def Leppard be there but opening up will be Man Raze and Cheap Trick so go here and buy your tickets!

I also have one tip for you...cougars are always hotter on Halloween night. It's just a fact of life.

Winter is Upon Us!

And I like it! Winter is so much better than summer in every single way.

- I would rather wait for the vehicle to warm up than wait for it to cool down.

- I hate being burned by the seat belt.

- I would much rather shrink than grow and move into the wrong position causing some squishing (only guys would understand that one).

- You can't run out of clothes to put on but you sure can run out of clothes to take off.

- The line-ups for cold drinks is soooooo much shorter so I can enjoy them that much faster.

- People suddenly forget how to drive when it snows so it makes me look like a genius.

- There's always something to throw at enemies in the winter. Hockey night in Canada every Saturday night! Pond hockey too!

- World Juniors every holiday season!

- Turkey, stuffing, Santa Claus, reindeer, Christmas lights, and joy all around.

- One word. Tobogganing.

- You don't smell of dust and dirt after going outside. No swass either!

Summer sucks. Winter rules.

What a Weekend!

Did you copy my picks for the Alberta Ford Dealers Online Hockey Pool? If you did...you're a smart person. I guaranteed that I'd be one of the best and I'm tied for second with a handful of others. That was your chance to get a head start on the competition...I'm not going to share my genius anymore!

Current record: 13-3

The weekend of victory doesn't stop there for me though! I was invited to participate in the "Celebrity Pie Eating Contest" at the Fall Family Fair. I'll be honest...I kind of had to laugh when we were all announced as the biggest celebrities in Cold Lake history. It was my very first time walking into the Cold Lake Energy Centre and I have only been here for two weeks! I'm already one of the biggest celebrities in history? Awesome.

Needless to say...I was victorious. There were two heats and I won my heat taking me to the final where I also won. I guaranteed victory last week on the Afternoon Drive so I came out with all guns ablazing. Maybe a little too much. I still smell rotten whip cream since it went straight up my nose and I even shed blood! I cut my lip on the pie tin! I am now nursing a swollen lip and fighting a odor that compares to vomit but it was all worth it in the name of victory. I may skip the pumpkin pie portion of Thanksgiving dinner this weekend though.

Remember one thing. No pain...no gain/game/victory. Oh. And if you're not cheating, you're not trying.

Awkward Moments on Facebook

Earlier today I went on an excursion to find a bear. Someone had called in saying that there was a bear just outside of town so I went to search for it hoping to post a picture of it up on my blog. Either that person lied or bears are very elusive.

What a big win for the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday as they paid a "visit" to Commonwealth Stadium to do battle with the Edmonton Eskimos. I say "visit" because there may just have been more Rider fans than Eskimo fans. What an unbelievable atmosphere! The game set a CFL attendance record with over 62,000 people attending the game.

The game definitely didn't live up to the hype though...what a sloppy game! The Riders played about as bad as a team can play before it's a guaranteed lost. They threw three interceptions but still managed to win the game 23-20. Despite the quality of the game, it still had its exciting parts and the atmosphere was awesome.

By the way...how do you score a touchdown after punting on 3rd and 38?

Kim Mitchell is one of the greatest musicians of all time. Not only CANADIAN musicians but ALL musicians.

He simply doesn't get the respect he deserves so this marks the official start of my campaign. Please take the time to go here and nominate our Canadian boy for Canada's Walk of Fame. Robert Munsch is in the Walk of Fame! Now...he's written some great novels for kids but he was born in PITTSBURGH, PENSYLVANIA, USA. The Day That Finally Came

November 23rd, 2008 will forever be marked as the day Chinese Democracy was released.

That's right...the album that has been worked on for 14 years and costing over 13 million dollars finally hit store shelves. New Guns N' Roses!

Many people will expect to hear old school Guns N' Roses in this album but if you go in expecting that, you will be sadly disappointed.

It's been 21 years since Appetite for Destruction (the praised Guns N' Roses debut) was released so if Axl Rose put out an album that resembled it, that would just be sad. Axl's grown up and you can tell with this album.

Does the album live up to the hype? What album can live up to 14 years of hype, delays, and controversy? I'll leave that up to you but I can tell you if you go in with an open mind and are a genuine fan of music, you'll like this album.

Some tracks including the title track, Shackler's Revenge, and Riad N' the Bedouins do resemble the attitude of old school Guns N' Roses. However, there's something about the Chinese Democracy tracks that have this new groove to them. It's good to see Axl evolve in his song-writing instead of being stuck in the past.

The ballad-style songs like Street of Dreams and This I Love are really where this album excels. Axl Rose has been documented as a huge Elton John and Queen fan and it really shows. The influence can be seen with a unique Guns N' Roses flair.

Chinese Democracy is an epic album that takes you on a journey. Don't expect to be pulled in upon first listen. I love the album more and more with each listen. Many may call the album over-produced but I'd say it is one of the best sounding albums ever. The mix is perfect!

Fans of GNR will continue to refuse to acknowledge this new version of the band as Guns N' Roses since there's no Slash, Duff, or Izzy Stradlin. Let's face it though...Axl was the attitude of Guns N' Roses and he made the band the "Most Dangerous Band on the Planet" at one point. Besides...with quality guitarists like Buckethead, Robin Finck, and Bumblefoot, Chinese Democracy is FULL of quality guitarists.

Guitar Hero: World Tour

I know this game may old news for some but I have fought with myself ever since October 26th (the release date of the new Guitar Hero instalment) about whether I should buy this game or not.

Yesterday, I bought it! I couldn't quit justify buying the full version complete with microphone, drum-kit and guitar for around $200 so I bought the game-only version for $50. Actually, I split it with my girlfriend so I only paid $25! I got my $25 worth out of gameplay from last night alone. I'm a huge music fan so the quality of music was a dealbreaker for me. With bands like Airbourne, Black Label Society, Jimi Hendrix, Tool, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, and Motorhead, how can you go wrong? This is probably the first Guitar Hero game I've played where I've actually felt like I'm playing songs from guitar heroes!

I'm one of those people that is still loyal to Nintendo and I only own a Wii. Say what you will, make fun of the kiddy games on the Wii..but they're fun! Anyway, many people have been hating on the Wii for not having any downloadable content but Guitar Hero: World Tour proves the haters wrong! My absolutely favourite band, Metallica, has made their new album, Death Magnetic, available for download and it's now available on Wii! This is the first game on Wii that takes advantage of the SD Slot on the system so you can download as many songs as your heart desires!

I'll be honest...I haven't dug very deep into the features of the game such as creating your own song but so far, it seems to be the best Guitar Hero game to date.

If you're a Guitar Hero lover...wait until Christmas and if you don't get the game...get out there and buy it!

It's halfway through November and for some odd reason, we still don't have any snow! Yet, for some strange reason, people all around me are complaining that it's cold.

By this time last year (maybe even the last few years), we have had quite a bit of snow with considerably colder temperatures. I want to know why Canadians keep complaining that it's cold.

Many of us have lived in Canada for well over 20 years...and it seems like you expect the temperatures to hover above freezing for the whole year! NEWSFLASH: IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!

Believe me, if you never expect the warmth to stay, the cold won't disappoint you. Don't you ever say you hate snow. I know when you were all little kids, you were dying to hit the snow hill for the first time. You were dying to make that first snow angel, have that first snowball fight. Maybe it's because I refuse to grow up and act like an "adult" but every November and sometimes even October when it snows, I am just as giddy as I was when I was eight years old. I instantly pop the Elvis Christmas CD in and that stays in the CD player up until the Christmas lights go dim. I'm actually getting kind of worried that the snow won't come...it should be here!

And drivers. Do Canadians forget how to drive when the first snowfall hits? It's quite hilarious, actually. All we really have to do is take extra caution when it's icy but noooo, those same drivers continue to speed their way through intersections and crosswalks putting themselves and others at risk. Then there's people freaking out and saying, "I HAVE TO GET MY WINTER TIRES!". I've never had winter tires during icy times and I've never had a problem. Drive like it's winter and you'll be completely fine.

My last entry was based strongly on patriotism but this one is too, I guess. I can't get over how older folks leave for the whole winter to Arizona or something. Do older people feel the effects of cold moreso than us young folk? No offense to you guys! If you're going to leave every winter, why didn't you just buy a one way ticket when you were younger?

BE PROUD OF THE COLD! Be proud of your identity. There's a reason why some of our neighbours to the south think that we live in igloos and get around by dogsled. It only fuels those thoughts when we leave for the winter. The cold will always be here and will always be part of what we are. Get used to it and stop complaining.

Regardless, I'm still kind of worried about having no snow yet...maybe this global warming thing is serious.

Remembrance Day

If you're Canadian and you're reading this, you probably know of something called Remembrance Day (if you don't, you probably are too young to be able to read).

This year's Remembrance Day landed on a Tuesday and it marked the 90th Anniversary of the end of World War I. The holiday is all about remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to serve our beautiful country of Canada. Sadly, I think we're beginning to forget.

I don't know what it is but it seems as though people under the age of forty couldn't care less about our troops or our country. Canada Day may be our birthday but Remembrance Day is the true patriotic holiday. Maybe if they put drink specials on when 11 o'clock on the 11th day of the 11th month hits, young Canadians would care.

I attended the service held at the Butterdome and it was an amazing experience. Coming from a smaller town, I've never been to a service with nearly 7,000 in attendance! It was an unbelievable to see veterans, current soldiers, and even some South Koreans that fought alongside us Canadians in the 50s. However, the service made me sad...not only because of the stories of the horrors our veterans experienced but because of the lack of young people. I found that surprising since the Butterdome is on the University of Alberta Campus! The new trend since George W. Bush became president of the U-S of A is to hate war. I don't want to shove people into a stereotype but I'm going to go out on a limb and do it anyway. It seems the people that want to protest war and do all this peace stuff are the young people in schools. Therefore, many of them either refuse to wear a poppy or even think about our veterans on Remebrance Day.

Newsflash, peacekeepers. Everyone hates war. You're not proving a point by not wearing a poppy, you're disgracing our country. It's truly embarrassing. Don't you ever take what you have in this country for granted. The worst of your worries is if you'll have to scrape your car's windshield in the morning. Be thankful for what you have here. Many countries would be thankful for a piece of bread, you probably wouldn't touch bread without a little bit of jam. Many countries wouldn't even dream of an internet to read blogs like this everyday! They live in fear every single day and we don't have to because of the brave men and women who fought to make our country safe. Sure, crime rates are escalating in big cities like Edmonton but we don't have to watch our steps for landmines, do we?

Don't you ever take this country of ours for granted and you have no right to disrespect the men and women who have served and the men and women who do serve. I went to West Edmonton Mall for dinner after the service and a good 75% of the people were not wearing a poppy. Do you know what numerous countries around the world would do for a mall like that? All of these privileges, rights, and freedoms didn't just fall out of the sky into our hands. They were earned.

I can only hope that that mall fell silent for a moment at 11 o'clock.

Next year...wear a poppy, attend a service. Maybe your eyes will be opened up, maybe they won't but I'm asking you to be thankful for what you've got because it could be a whole different Canada. Don't say that you don't know anyone who has been killed in battle because you don't want that happen. Is that what it takes for you to respect these brave people? Wearing a poppy is not encouraging war, it's a symbol of honour and respect.

From World War I, to World War II, to Korea to our current peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan, we must never, ever forget the troops that keep us safe.

Movie Week

This week is only four days old and I've seen three brand new movies...all comedy, yay!

Monday, I checked out a movie starring Seth Rogen, a man that many say that I resemble. If you want to go to a movie with raunchy (in other words, good) humour then check out this movie! But there's a bonus...for all you guys who like this kind of humour but want to take your lady to a movie that she just might enjoy, then this is the one for you! I'd say it's a compromise between a chick flick and a guy movie. Even though there is some tasteless or offensive humour, there is a very cool love story embedded within. Even I can appreciate a good love story when it's done right.

Tuesday was NAITSA's Movie Night at the Shaw Theatre! The movie of the week was The Love Guru feating Mike Myers, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Alba. If you love stupid and lame humour then I'd highly recommend you check this one out. The movie has a horrible story but some funny spots..kind of like Austin Powers. If you like Austin Powers, then you would definitely enjoy The Love Guru. Do not go into this movie expecting impressive acting and a riveting story...go in expecting dry humour and you will come out satisfied. I came out satisfied although NR92's own DJ Hooligan was quite disappointed. It's not my problem he can't appreciate a good laugh!

Last but not least, at the last possible minute, I obtained a pass to the premiere of Role Models starring Phil Rudd and Sean William Scott. What a cool movie! Basically, these two guys screw up and they have to some time for a children's organization. It's all been done before and of course they get attached to the kids but if you like a good laugh like me (or you just laugh at anything remotely funny), then check out this movie. Plus, all movies that have happy endings rule!

I did my best not to spoil any of these films for you but when it comes to comedy, I may not be the best person to look to. If I watched paint dry, I'd laugh my little heart out.

It all began in 2000 or 2001. One of the most popular television shows of this decade, Survivor, hit the airwaves and that is when television as we knew it began to hit rock bottom.

After Survivor, we were blessed with an onslaught of "reality" programs.

- Average Joe
- The Bachelor
- Amazing Race
- American Idol
- Canadian Idol
- Big Brother
- The Real World
- Beauty and the Geek
- Flavour of Love
- Rock of Love

In other words, junk TV! Some of these are even contests...the most local being Canadian Idol. Contestant, Earl Stevenson, was from Lloydminster (where I'm from) and you should have seen the craziness that ensued! It wasn't even fair! I heard stories of people texting in their vote 900 times a night with 3 different cell phones! Come on.

The ultimate in "reality" television started a few weeks ago with...Paris Hilton's My New BFF. I pray that this show is supposed to be bad. I've actually seen it on my TV guide a few times and I couldn't resist the urge to turn it on. I turned it on and I was almost embarrassed for the "contestants"! Who would compete to become someone's best friend? I'm not a big, deep, emotional guy but did you ever have to compete to make friends? The show looks terribly scripted, like Paris struggled to get her lame lines out so she got 23 takes. I know, I know...people are all into staying green but that's fine because a certain group of people make me mad. In fact, furious.

Cyclists! Do you think you're so clever with your little hand signals? Do you think you're cool because you get to drive on the road with the rest of us?

Guess what. You're not cool. Everyone hates you. Get off of the road when I'm trying to drive! The hardworking taxpayers of this city paid for sidewalks for idiots like you. Use them!

Some of us have anniversaries to attend, doctors to visit, and children to bear! If you can't pedal at LEAST speed limit, get out of my way.

Why don't you just ride on one of thos hybrid ETS buses if you want to save the environment? Wait! The bus drivers are insane too...but that's another rant for another entry.

I guess this is my first official post on my blog. I'm Travis from NR92 and I'm on-air all the time...whether it be in recorded commercials, news, remotes, or just being a jock, I'm there! I've got my own personal show, Monday Night Chaos, which is on every Monday (obviously) night at 8.

Obviously, I take Radio at NAIT and it's such a sweet course! You wouldn't believe how nice it is to go to school and ACTUALLY like it. I don't have to sit there and write essays on Hamlet or colour in maps for Social Studies. My favorite part is scheduling music...I wanted to get into radio in the first place for the fact that I'd be spinning rock tunes for everyone! If you hear any rock tunes on NR92...it can probably be blamed on me. Oh...and another artist named Speak the Hungarian Rapper.

I am currently on a mission to bring Speak the Hungarian Rapper to Edmonton to do a show...rumor has it that he will embark on a world tour in 2009 but who knows if Edmonton is on the itinerary? I want him here! Watch Stop the War (his 2003 hit single) below! If you like what you see/hear...request it on NR92! The number's 780-471-8833 and we love to spin that tune.
